Yes, you can apply for NSFAS after a gap year as long as you meet the other requirements. Your 55% matric average is above the minimum needed for most public university and TVET college courses. The NSFAS 2027 application window is expected to open around August 2026, so you cannot apply yet.

Official NSFAS communication is done through your myNSFAS portal or emails from @nsfas.org.za. Do not reply, do not send money, and never share your personal details with anyone claiming to be from NSFAS via SMS.
